Meet the Manapori’s
Talofa! Kia Orana! Hello & welcome :)
I'm Kealoana Manapori, a Samoan mum and the designer of our Kokobums brand. Then there's my hubby Richard, my Cook Islander innovator, backbone and biggest supporter. Lastly our 2 mini giant boys Wycliffe & Raui - the inspiration to this whole operation (with hopes to add a girl somewhere) and we are The Manapori’s!
Why cloth nappies?
I started cloth nappy-ing my older son after I noticed he had rashes from disposables regardless of the brand he was wearing. Even with constant changes and creams, the rashes stayed and were worse at night. So I tried a couple of cloth nappies for the nighttime routine and the rash was gone after 2 days! I was sold.
But Kokobums was born out of a need for BIGGER and LONGER cloth nappies. My cloth stash I had invested in, most brands said they went to 20kg. Yet my little giant coconut baby was maxing out most nappies cause of his height.
Cue my husband who suggested I make a bigger cloth nappy suited to our big babies but with cultural designs. Hesitant but keen, we gave it a go.
That’s how we got to where we are today.
Our brand isn't perfect, it’s taken almost 3 years of preparation, designing and testing, lots and lots of saving and belief that we’re going in the right direction, and a good hard knock of lessons just to launch our first reusable swim nappy. But we have so much more we want to bring to life.
I do hope our brand will be able to grow and reach our small islands, offering Polynesian designed reusable products as a sustainable solution! Landfill is such a huge problem everywhere, and nappies & pads take 250+ years to breakdown, yet they are filling our Pacifica lands and seas with toxic waste.
Our Kokobums reusable products will be a little solution to this big problem. It's my hope we can find a way to take these to our islands!
We are the first Polynesian owned small business in the reusable sustainable cloth world and we are so grateful you chose to shop with us.
Much alofa,
The Manapori’s
